Arctic air is set to plunge temperatures into the teens Sunday night, with widespread wind chills in the single digits expected through mid-morning Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, this cold snap brings elevated risks for cold exposure. Adding to the chill, gusty northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will bring peak gusts up to 35 mph. These winds could easily send unsecured outdoor items, including holiday decorations, flying.
A Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect for all of Central North Carolina from Sunday at 6 p.m. through Monday at 9 a.m.
Staying safe in cold weather
- Dress in layers, including hats and gloves.
- Ensure children are properly dressed for the cold.
- Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Provide outdoor animals with a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
- Regularly check on older family members, friends, and neighbors.
- Use portable heaters safely and avoid using generators or grills indoors.
