Woman found dead in Georgia was pregnant, suspect faces new charge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The 20-year-old Tennessee woman found dead in Georgia earlier this week was pregnant. The Rome Police Department announced Friday that one of the two suspects in her death has now been charged with feticide.

Kaylee B. Shackelford, of Powell, was found dead Tuesday near Hull Avenue and Cedar Avenue in Rome. In Georgia, feticide is defined as causing the death of an unborn child by injury to the mother, or causing it while committing another felony.

Mystique Malachi Amaziah Taylor, 23, now faces one count of feticide in addition to previous charges including felony murder, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of another. Rolanda Monique Edwards, 25, faces charges of being a party to a crime, with warrants for concealing the death of another and hindering apprehension or punishment of a criminal.

Police reported that Taylor and Edwards were taken into custody after witnesses reported seeing a red vehicle in the area immediately prior to the discovery of Shackelford’s body.
