City of Willard clarifies the parks department will face budget cuts, no closure

WILLARD, Mo. (KY3) – The city of Willard addressed rumors about the parks and recreation department shutting down at a park board meeting Thursday, clarifying the department will face budget cuts rather than elimination.

Concerned citizens filled the meeting to advocate for keeping the parks open. Jason Knight, director of parks and recreation, opened the meeting by addressing the rumors and explaining the department’s actual situation.

“I feel like probably every community in Missouri is looking at significant, or not significant, but similar budget cuts across the board,” Knight said. “It doesn’t just affect the Parks Department. It’s all departments across the city.”…
