Dispatchers calmed family as they were lost in S.C. state park

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. — Emergency dispatchers released 911 calls revealing their efforts to keep a family calm after they became lost at Caesars Head State Park in South Carolina.

The missing hikers included Tonda Michelin, her three grandchildren and their dog who were last heard from while hiking the Raven Cliff Falls trail inside the park.

First emergency calls

The first call to 911 came in at 5:43 p.m. with only silence on the line. A second attempt came just a minute later. More than an hour later, a third attempt finally connected just before 7 p.m.

“We were on top of the mountain. We’re all about to die,” the child said…
