12 drivers arrested at DUI checkpoint in Pacific Beach

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Twelve people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at a DUI checkpoint in Pacific Beach on Thursday, authorities said.

According to the San Diego Police Department, officers conducted the roadblock in the 2600 block of Ingraham Street from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Friday.

A total of 434 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint, with 22 drivers undergoing a secondary evaluation. Authorities said 12 of those drivers were ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI.

“DUI/Driver License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries,” SDPD stated in a press release. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies.”
