West Sacramento drug trafficker pleads guilty, awaits March sentencing

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — James Kenney, a 45-year-old from West Sacramento, admitted to his role in a drug distribution conspiracy on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin, according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.

Kenney, along with 31-year-old Kevin Leacy and others, operated out of a motel in West Sacramento from May to August 2025. During this period, law enforcement conducted controlled purchases, buying 100 grams of fentanyl and 540 grams of pure methamphetamine from Kenney and Leacy.

In August, authorities searched the motel, uncovering 3.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 2 kilograms of cocaine, alongside methamphetamine and heroin. The investigation was led by the FBI with help from local law enforcement…
