JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced a lighting project on Interstate 20 and Interstate 55 in Hinds County has been completed.
The project consisted of electrical repairs and upgrades to the current roadway lighting system on I-20 from State Route 18 to I-55 and on I-55 from I-20 to the Rankin County line.

The work included upgrading the system to LED lighting, as well as a notification system that will alert MDOT crews of an outage. Officials believe the notification system will help combat wire theft that has occurred on metro-area interstates in recent years.
The prime contractor, R&W Electric Company, of Collinsville, handled the $2.8 million contract.
