Let’s be the leaders and best when it comes to pay for early childhood education professionals

Teachers in early childhood education (ECE) make all other professions possible, both in teaching children during their most formative years and by caring for the children of working parents. But their vital work continues to be underpaid, across the country, throughout the state of Michigan, and even here at the University of Michigan (U of M).

The university’s ECE teachers are part of University Staff United, a newly recognized union who is fighting for a contract that would include higher wages for many of the university’s lowest paid full-time workers, including the early childhood educators at all three campuses’ children’s centers…
