The San Antonio Police Department is taking applications for its next Citizen Police Academy, a 13-week program that offers residents an inside look at how the department operates and responds to major incidents.
The free courses are routinely offered at SAPD, with the latest being called Class 26-A. The class will be held Tuesdays from Jan. 6 through March 31, with sessions held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the SAPD Training Academy.
Participants will receive briefings and hands-on demonstrations by officers from various units including K-9, Vice and Internet Crimes, the department’s helicopter unit, and firearms instructors. The curriculum also teaches civilians how to handle active-shooter situations.
