Race day will arrive in Honolulu as thousands take to the streets

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Marathon is less than 12 hours away and the stage is set for takeoff starting at 5 a.m. tomorrow, Dec. 14.

Preparations ahead of the 53rd Honolulu Marathon

There are more than 42,000 people who are expected to lace up their running shoes for the annual race.

The 26.1-mile race and the 10k start at 5 a.m. and road closures will begin as early as 12:30 a.m. from downtown Honolulu to Diamond Head and East Honolulu.

A reminder for those who love to get the bird’s-eye view of the action: all unauthorized drones will not be allowed to fly over the marathon.

According to HPD, the FAA has issued a temporary flight restriction in the area and the city says that they will be tracking illegal drone operations…
