The Chronicle’s guide to spending winter break around Duke

The fall 2025 semester is coming to a close. Final examinations end Monday and residence halls officially close Tuesday at noon. For those hanging around Duke and Durham for part or all of the winter break, The Chronicle has assembled a guide to on-campus resources and activities in the area.

Around Duke and Durham

To commemorate the winter solstice coming up in a week, join Magick Makers at the Durham Central Park for their Winter Solstice Faire from 1 to 6 p.m. It will feature a holiday market with more than 60 vendors, live music, food and beverage, and community rituals. Through Jan. 3, visit the Festibull of Lights at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park for an “immersive light experience” including a light show, crafts and s’mores.

Cameron Crazies will have the opportunity to line the bleachers in Cameron Indoor Stadium for home men’s and women’s basketball games and a wrestling meet. Duke men’s basketball plays Lipscomb University Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Georgia Tech Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. Women’s basketball will play in Cameron against North Dakota State on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. and against Boston College at 1 p.m. on New Year’s Day. The sisterhood then hosts Notre Dame University at noon on Jan. 4. The wrestling team will have its first home meet of the season in a dual with Appalachian State on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. in Cameron.

Looking for a holiday tradition? The Barriskill Dance Theatre School will present The Nutcracker in the Reynolds Industry Theatre in Bryan Center from Dec. 19 to 21. In addition, the Duke Chapel will hold four services on Christmas Eve and host the Choral Society of Durham for its holiday concert on Dec. 21 at 4 p.m…
