West Memphis Woman Killed in Street Racing Incident, Driver Charged with First-Degree Murder

A late-night street race in West Memphis ended tragically when a car involved struck and killed a woman, authorities reported. Mayor Marco McClendon told Action News 5 that the incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday, involving two drivers in a high-speed race that resulted in the death of an unhoused woman.

Law enforcement, including deputies from the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the West Memphis Police Department, initially pursued the two vehicles eastbound on Broadway near Ingram Boulevard, according to FOX13. Authorities lost sight of the cars before discovering the crash at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and East Broadway. The scene showed extensive damage to the vehicle and personal items, including clothing and a stroller, scattered along the roadway.

25-year-old Amarion Prewitt was arrested at the scene and faces charges of first-degree murder and fleeing. The second driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken in for questioning and later released. Authorities have also not released the identity of the woman who was killed…
