Remembering one of Middle Tennessee’s largest tornado outbreaks 4 years later

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Four years ago, Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky were impacted by one of the largest tornado outbreaks on record.

On Dec. 10 and 11, 2021, a tornado outbreak impacted areas from Arkansas and Missouri all the way into northern Indiana and Ohio. There was a total of 66 tornadoes; 16 of those touched down in Middle Tennessee, and seven of them impacted the Southern Kentucky counties that we cover at News 2.

The 16 confirmed tornadoes in Middle Tennessee make it the fifth-largest tornado outbreak on record. Middle Tennessee’s largest tornado outbreak occurred on April 27, 2011, with a total of 30 confirmed tornado tracks.

Of the 16 tornadoes that impacted Middle Tennessee, seven of them were rated EF-0, five were rated EF-1, and four were rated EF-2. There were no deaths caused by the twisters in Middle Tennessee, but eight people were injured…
