Long Island’s first snowfall triggers fatal crashes and hundreds of accidents

A person was killed early this morning in a car crash along the Southern State Parkway.

State police say 35-year-old Deodat J. Ramotar crashed his Hyundai Sonata into a tree around 4:01 a.m. near Exit 13 in North Valley Stream. Investigators say he was speeding and intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Two of the three passengers in the vehicle were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. A passenger in the rear seat was pronounced dead at the scene…
