Albany Park Beating Turns Deadly, Judge Drops 20-Year Hammer

Richard Orozco, 40, has been sentenced to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the June 2024 beating death of a 67-year-old man in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood. Court records show he received credit for 562 days already served. The attack happened in the 3100 block of West Lawrence Avenue, and the victim later died from the injuries he suffered in the assault.

According to ABC7 Chicago, Orozco pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder, and a Cook County judge imposed the 20-year prison term after reviewing court paperwork. The station reported that the plea documents list the 562 days of credit applied to his sentence and that the sentence was entered this week.
