From the Porch: A late night intruder

The character I speak of today will remain nameless for reasons that will become obvious. Let’s just say he may or may not have red hair and may or may not be related to me.

This young man had been on two combat tours and back. And now he was putting some newfound skills to good use as an EMT. I’d helped him buy a house – an adorable little craftsman on the east side of St. Paul with beautiful woodwork and a fenced-in yard for his puppy, complete with a fire pit. Life was good.

For a housewarming gift I gave him a laundry basket of basic necessities, including toilet paper and a pillow I made for him featuring the Marine Corps logo. He’s not in the service now, but he can be proud of the time he spent there. His military training certainly came in handy one day…
