A tragic water incident claimed the life of one kayaker and left another hospitalized near the Ballard Locks on Friday, officials from the Seattle Fire Department reported. Emergency services received a call regarding a kayaker in distress in the vicinity of the 3200 block of W. Commodore Way and quickly responded to the scene. Despite the deployment of rescue swimmers and immediate lifesaving attempts, one adult male was pronounced dead following their extraction from the water, according to multiple sources including KATU.
Upon their arrival, crews located a man in the waters of Salmon Bay near the Ballard Locks. He was brought to shore in critical condition and, despite intense efforts by first responders, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The second victim, also an adult man was reported to be stable after being moved to Harborview Medical Center for further care said KING 5.
