Teenager arrested for reportedly firing at a patrol vehicle during a stolen car chase

A 17-year-old suspect faces charges after leading Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase Thursday night from Awendaw to Mount Pleasant in a stolen vehicle. The pursuit ended with a crash into a power box on Marginal Road, followed by a brief foot escape attempt thwarted by a Mount Pleasant K-9 unit.​

Incident Details

Deputies spotted the vehicle on Highway 17 near Steed Creek Road around 9 p.m. and attempted a stop; the teen accelerated to nearly 100 mph, veered into oncoming traffic, and fired at least one shot at the cruiser. No injuries occurred during the event.​
