Several Columbus city departments to relocate to City Hall

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The new year will bring some changes for the City of Columbus, including the relocation of four departments.

Columbus Consolidate Government (CCG) officials say effective Jan. 5, 2026 the following departments will be moving to City Hall (1111 First Avenue):

  • Engineering
  • Planning
  • Community Reinvestment
  • Inspections and Code

According to CCG officials, the relocation of these departments is to better serve the community, streamline operations and be in a centralized location.

As part of the transition:

  • The public counters for both the Inspections and Code Department and the EngineeringDepartment will be closed on Jan. 5 and will reopen at 1:00 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2026 at the new City Hall location.
  • Field inspections and phone communications will continue as normal during the relocation period to ensure uninterrupted service to the public.
  • The Planning Department and Community Reinvestment Departments will be unavailable for in-person visits until Jan. 12, 2026. Both departments will be available via phone or e-mail during the transition.
