Cash Only Policy Nearly Underway
If you’ve ever walked into a coffee shop or grabbed lunch at a deli and seen a “cash not accepted” sign, that’s about to change in New York.
Governor Kathy Hochul just signed a law requiring all retail stores and food establishments to take your dollars and coins. The rules kick in on March 20, 2026, and businesses that refuse face fines up to $1,500.
New York is now the fifth state to push back against the cashless trend, and the reasons behind it start with who gets left behind when stores stop taking paper money.
