Santa Claus trades sleigh for skates at Amarillo Ice Ranch

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Families looking to get into the holiday spirit can lace up their skates and hit the ice. The Amarillo Ice Ranch, located at 301 S Grant Street, is preparing to host its Santa Skate event, which gives children a chance to meet St. Nick in a festive and chilly way.

“Families can come out and skate with Santa,” Katelyn Anderson, Amarillo Ice Ranch general manager, said. “We’ll do hot chocolate. We’ll do the whole nine yards. With Amarillo ISD being out, it’s a great time to come out in the evening from seven to nine to do that. And then we’ll wrap it up on the 21st and 22nd, right before the holidays. Come out and skate.”

As crews transform the Amarillo Ice Ranch rink with lights, music, and decorations, organizers said the goal is more than just skating — it’s about creating memories.

“I think a lot of people don’t realize that the Amarillo Ice Ranch is open year-round,” Anderson said. “They think, oh man, it’s Christmas time, and we’re going to go skate. Nothing better than ice skating and Christmas. So we took that and just put it all together and said, You know what? We’re going to get Santa out. The Grinch might make an appearance this year. We’ll see. And we’re going to go ahead and have everybody out as a family to skate.”…
