AUSTIN (KXAN) — As temperatures drop across Central Texas, Austin officials are holding a press conference Monday to discuss winter weather and “personal resilience and readiness needs.”
The first day of winter is considered to be the Winter Solstice, or the longest night of the year. In the northern hemisphere, that day is typically Dec. 21. The first day of meteorological winter was Dec. 1, according to the KXAN First Warning Weather Team.
Austin officials hold this press conference annually “to remind the community of the dangers winter weather poses, steps the public can take to protect their people, pets, and property, and how the City and County are preparing to respond to winter weather.”
