Iowa City to begin snow removal at 2 a.m. Tuesday; towing enforced in tow-away zones

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Snow removal in downtown Iowa City will begin at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, and vehicles parked in designated tow-away zones will be subject to towing, city officials said.

Towing will occur in an area stretching from Prentiss Street to Market Street and from Madison Street to Gilbert Street, as well as along North Clinton Street from Market Street to Church Street. The affected spaces are metered spots that do not allow parking from 2 to 6 a.m.

Drivers are urged to follow posted parking signs to avoid towing. Vehicles may be moved to a downtown parking ramp or to on-street parking outside the restricted area.

Motorists whose vehicles are towed must go to the Iowa City Police Department at 410 E. Washington St. with a photo ID; payment for fines and any outstanding parking fees; and the vehicle’s description and license plate number. Credit cards are accepted.
