CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Solid Waste Services is asking residents to take a few extra minutes during post-holiday cleanup to recycle properly.
City officials say the weeks after the holidays bring a big jump in cardboard, packaging, and other materials that can be recycled if sorted properly.
“The holiday season creates a lot more waste, which makes this a really important time for recycling,” said Philip Aldridge, director of Solid Waste Services. “Breaking down boxes and recycling items like gift packaging can make a big difference. When residents stay consistent now, it helps us meet our sustainability goals all year long.”
What can be recycled?
Put these items in blue carts:
- Flattened cardboard boxes
- Paper items like catalogs, mail, magazines, newspapers and greeting cards without glitter or foil
- Empty, clean and dry cans and plastic containers
- Plastic bottles (remove caps and lids)
These items do not belong in blue carts:
- Holiday decorations like ribbons, bows, garland, lights and ornaments
- Wrapping paper or cards with glitter or foil
- Styrofoam, bubble wrap and padded envelopes
- Plastic bags
- Disposable batteries
Residents are also reminded not to overfill their carts.
Drop-off options
Some items should be taken to the J.C. Elliott Transfer Station at 7001 Ayers Street.
- Live Christmas trees: Bare trees can be dropped off from December 26 through January 31, 2026. A drop-off container is available near the main gate 24/7. Trees with artificial snow are not accepted in the recycling container, and artificial trees must be taken inside the station. Trees can also be set out during approved bulky item pickup days.
- Household hazardous waste: Motor oil, cooking grease, pesticides, paint and cleaners
- Electronics and appliances: Computers, printers and large appliances
- Other items: Glass bottles, lithium batteries and up to four tires per visit
