Austin to activate cold weather shelters due to forecasts of near freezing temperatures

AUSTIN (KXAN) – As temperatures are forecast to be in the mid-30s tonight, the city of Austin will open its overnight cold weather shelters Sunday night for a warm refuge.

Those in need of shelter can register from 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at One Texas Center (OTC), 505 Barton Springs Road. The city offers hotel rooms for families with children during cold-weather activation periods.

These shelters can be a potentially lifesaving resource for people living unsheltered in Austin. Around 5 p.m. Sunday, there were already a couple of dozen people waiting at One Texas Center for the buses to arrive.
