Ditch the snow: Christmas looking warmer this year

For those hoping for a white Christmas in the Ozarks, you may be out of luck this year. In fact, you might even want to break out the shorts!

While it may not be THAT warm, the data 10 days out from Christmas is leaning favorably towards warmer weather. Instead of the 40s, we could be dealing with the 50s and 60s around Christmas time in Springfield.

Warmer weather on Christmas isn’t necessarily rare, but it is uncommon. Our average high temperature on December 25 is about 42°. Going back to 1888, only 33 Christmases have been 50° or warmer. The warmest Christmas was 72° in 1889.

A cold Christmas is much more likely. Since 1888, temperatures have been 40° or colder on Christmas 63 times…
