Tucson looking for volunteers to count the homeless in Pima County

For unhoused women, weather can present dangerous predicaments. This woman spent the entire night in the rain, unable to sleep.

Kat Davis, continuum care lead team manager with the city says the annual count will provide a snapshot of Pima County’s unhoused population. The initiative is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, since the city receives federal funding for homelessness.

“We use the Point-In-Time Count data to compare year-over-year numbers, and just see how this data is trending,” Davis said. “This gives us a picture of what’s going on in our community, and what issues the people experiencing homelessness are facing.”…
