Akron police implement AI-powered assistant for non-emergency calls known as ‘Ava’: Here’s how it works

AKRON, Ohio — Citing an effort “to continue enhancing the services we provide to the community,” the Akron Police Department announced Monday that it’s implementing a new AI-powered system “designed to help manage non-emergency calls more efficiently.”

“Each year, APD receives thousands of non-emergency calls for service, in addition to 911 emergency calls,” according to a press release from Akron police. “To better support our call takers and enhance response, non-emergency calls will now be assisted by ‘Ava,’ an AI-powered virtual assistant developed by Aurelian.”
