Impaired driver, Brecksville Road
Responding to reports of an erratic driver at 10:41 p.m. Nov. 30, police located and attempted to pull over the driver. The car was reportedly “completely missing” its right front tire and had heavy front-end damage. The driver reportedly tried to flee, driving over a median and accelerating away from the police officer until the car became disabled due to the damage. The driver appeared impaired during the stop, reportedly needing assistance to walk, and a bottle of alcohol was also found inside the car. The passenger was identified as the driver’s mother. She told police the pair was coming from a restaurant and thought they were in Garfield Heights. The driver refused to participate in field sobriety tests or take a blood-alcohol breath test. She was cited for operating a motor vehicle impaired, reckless operation and open container. Police gave the passenger a courtesy ride to a residence in Garfield Heights, and the woman reportedly became “belligerent” when they arrived at the residence, at one point running down the street. She was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment. Brecksville Police later reported the driver was suspected in a hit-and-run accident in that city that caused damage to a mailbox and other property…
