Following a brief contest for leadership of the Maryland General Assembly’s lower chamber, Del. Joseline Peña-Melnyk (D-District 21) is poised to be elected speaker of Maryland’s House of Delegates during a special session on Dec. 16.
Peña-Melnyk, who has been a key voice in Annapolis on progressive issues and a mentor for other legislators, plans to build upon the legislative efforts that outgoing Speaker Adrienne Jones (D- District 10) worked towards.
