Woman charged for alleged fatal hit-and-run in Gastonia: Police

GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in October, according to the Gastonia Police Department.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 19, a dark colored 2021 Mazda CX-9 SUV hit two pedestrians on Garrison Boulevard at Yates Street. One of the victims, 28-year-old Cody Cochran, died from his injuries, officials said. The other victim, who was not identified, was seriously injured.

On Friday, October 24, investigators found the Mazda at a residence about a half mile from where the crash happened. Investigators reviewed video footage and data collected through the Real Time Crime Center to identify and find the vehicle.

Just before noon on Monday, 36-year-old Laketta Shunta English was arrested at her residence in Gastonia by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Arrest records show she is being held on a $500,000 bond for felony hit-and-run resulting in injury or death and failure to maintain lane control.
