GAF Energy closes San Jose solar shingle factory, moves to Texas

Nailable solar shingle maker GAF Energy has shut down its San Jose, California, research and development and manufacturing hub, which opened in 2021, and moved its headquarters to Georgetown, Texas. Going forward, the company will only manufacture its solar shingles at its Texas factory.

The move comes with layoffs in California. GAF Energy laid off 138 San Jose employees on December 13, according to a California Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed by the company in October.

“In light of ongoing changes in the solar industry, we are aligning our business and our team to focus on key markets where solar is most compelling for builders and homeowners,” GAF Energy president Martin DeBono said in a statement…
