Horizon City Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest Over Outstanding Warrants and Drug Possession

El Paso County, Texas — A routine traffic stop in Horizon City early Thursday morning resulted in the arrest of a man wanted on an outstanding felony warrant and facing new drug-related charges, according to information released by the Horizon City Police Department.

Traffic Stop for Equipment Violation

The incident occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, when Horizon City police officers conducted a traffic stop along the 14400 block of Rudi Kuefner Drive. Officers initiated the stop after observing an equipment violation on the vehicle, police said.

Traffic stops for equipment issues such as faulty lights, missing plates, or broken signals are a common law enforcement practice and are often used to ensure roadway safety during late-night hours.

Warrant Check Reveals Active Felony Case

During the stop, officers performed a routine warrant check on both the driver and the passenger. The passenger was identified as Valentine Rodriguez, 33, police confirmed.

According to Horizon City Police, Rodriguez had an active criminal warrant issued by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant stemmed from a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a serious felony offense under Texas law. Authorities said the warrant carried a bond amount of $20,000
