El Paso ICU nurse rings cancer bell after months of treatment

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — After nine years as an ICU nurse at The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus, Stephanie Eschriche learned what it’s like to be on the other side of the bed.

In early December, Eschriche stood in front of a Christmas tree at the hospital’s annual tree lighting with tears in her eyes. She’d just completed her last cancer treatment.

Surrounded by her team, who shouted words of encouragement, she rang the cancer bell to mark the end of her time as a cancer patient and the beginning of her journey as a cancer survivor.

Battling melanoma cancer only propelled Eschriche forward, according to The Hospitals of Providence Communications Manager Monique Poessiger. Eschriche adjusted her schedule around her treatments to be there for her team, day and night, Poessiger continued…
