HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — About 550 soldiers from Illinois Army National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment were welcomed home ahead of the holidays.
According to officials, the soldiers were greeted with welcome home ceremonies on December 6 and December 12 in Mascoutah and Rockford. Officials say about 265 Soldiers arrived in Illinois on December 6 while the remaining Soldiers returned on December 12.
Officials say the soldiers were mobilized in February in support of Operation Spartan Shield and deployed to seven countries, including Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Israel. Officials say the units were based in Effingham, Litchfield and Mt. Vernon.
