North Augusta opened a free ice-skating rink at Sharon Jones Amphitheater that runs now through Jan. 2.
The Winter Whirl event marks the first time the city has offered free skating since the early 1960s, when an actual rink operated in town. Kelly Zier, who has served as city attorney for more than 50 years, confirmed this historical detail.
