U.S. Marshals say Memphis crime rates dropped due to task force presence

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The U.S. Marshals announced that the Memphis Safe Task Force has made over 4,000 arrests and has significantly impacted crime since being deployed to Memphis in September, according to a press release.

Memphis Safe Task Force is active in Memphis

U.S. Marshals said that the task force’s operations have resulted in the following:

  • 15 homicide suspects arrested
  • Over 629 illegal firearms seized
  • Substantial quantities of narcotics removed from circulation
  • More than 400 known gang members apprehended
  • More than 1,800 arrest warrants executed
  • 123 missing children located and/or recovered

Marshals also claimed that violent crime has been reduced and stated that murder is down 39.47%, sexual assault is down 43.13%, robbery is down 59.58%, and motor vehicle thefts are down 69.63%.

The Director of the U.S. Marshals Service and Chair of the Memphis Safe Task Force, Gadyaces S. Serralta, commented about the announcement.

“Since the launch of the Memphis Safe Task Force Operation, we have made more than4,000 arrests, removing violent offenders from our streets and directly reducing violentcrime across Memphis. This effort is about more than numbers, it is about upholding therule of law, ensuring accountability, and creating safer neighborhoods where families canthrive. The long‑lasting effects of this work will be felt throughout communities acrossMemphis, and it is a testament to what can be achieved when county, local, state, andfederal partners stand shoulder to shoulder in pursuit of justice.
