Anyone who has lived in Syracuse for any amount of time is aware that trucks are constantly hitting the Onondaga Lake Parkway CSX railroad bridge. Last Friday, this happened for the eighth time this year. They’ve been hitting the Park Street bridge, too. Officials have thrown solutions back and forth repeatedly over the years. How many millions have been spent to “solve” the Onondaga Lake Parkway problem, with seemingly no impact? A solution not only exists, but can already be found in Syracuse.
South Geddes Street passes under railroad tracks between Erie Boulevard and West Fayette Street. Geddes St. probably drops 10 to 12 feet under those tracks, whereas the roadway would only have to drop a couple of feet under both the Parkway and Park Street bridges to permanently solve both problems…
