Southport elected official charged with DWI

An elected official in a Brunswick County city was charged with driving while impaired and more.

Southport Alderman Robert Carroll, 38, was arrested on Dec. 13 in connection with allegedly driving impaired along N.C. 133.

The signed magistrate order claims Carroll “unlawfully and willfully” failed to drive on the right half of the highway, exceeded the 55-mph speed limit and drove while subject to an impairing substance.
