Operation Holiday: Mother of 2 recalls bouts of homelessness, sleeping in car

Memories of sleeping in her car, she and her fiancé trying to keep warm on frigid nights, still haunt Stephanie, who experienced two years of homelessness.

“It’s hard to stay warm when it’s so cold outside you see your breath and no matter how many blankets you put on you’re not warm enough. Sometimes you find yourself going to Wawa just to go inside to get warm,” Stephanie, 27, said during a recent interview.

While she and her fiancé often slept in their car, Stephanie said relatives were able to take in her two little girls, ages 6 and 8, so they didn’t have to sleep in those conditions. Stephanie would return in the morning to take the girls to school…
