LSU AgCenter scientists launch project to restore fireflies to night sky

Remember those warm early summer Louisiana nights when fireflies lit up the sky like blinking Christmas lights on a tree and the neighborhood kids captured the creatures in Mason jars with air holes poked into the lids?

Today, firefly populations have reached historically low numbers in Louisiana and around the world because of habitat loss, pesticides and light pollution, according to Firefly Conservation and Research.
