LINCOLN, NEB — The Brestel family of Lincoln has marked 21 years of honoring their late son, Josh, by donating toys to CHI Health St. Elizabeth. Josh, who passed away from kidney cancer at the age of four, received part of his treatment at St. Elizabeth.
This year, the family set a record by donating with 1,599 toys, filling more than 19 boxes. Josh’s birthday was Dec. 13, and the family donates toys to keep his memory alive.
“It’s therapy to a certain extent, it’s remembering him every year,” Diane and Steve Brestel said. “Our kids probably won’t let us stop. Sooner or later, they’re probably going to need to take over, but it’s fun. People are still supporting.”…
