Firefighters rescue husky from icy pond in western suburbs, officials looking for owner

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WGN) — Firefighters raced into icy water Monday morning to save a husky that had fallen into a pond near St. Charles, as the dog struggled in frigid conditions.

According to the Fox River and Countryside Fire Department, dispatchers received calls around 7:30 a.m. reporting a dog barking in a pond in unincorporated St. Charles.

Fire officials said the husky did not have a collar but does have a microchip. However, the phone number linked to the chip is not working.

Officials believe the dog was in the water for about an hour before being rescued. The husky was taken to Dundee Animal Hospital, where staff are working to locate the owner…
