(Des Moines) — Officials with a proposed beef processing plant in Mills County are hoping to begin construction as early as next summer.
Cattlemen’s Heritage Beef Company is planning a $520 million beef processing plant on 132 acres of land in Mills County. Chad Tentinger is CEO of the Des Moines-based company and cattle barn company TenCorp, Incorporated. Tentinger tells KMA News the company recently signed an agreement with Legacy Beef Co-op, which will supply the plant’s cattle.
“Right now, we are signing up members, and have members signed up, and are starting to deliver cattle,” said Tentinger. “What we did in the meantime is contract with existing packers to deliver cattle. So, we’re going to take our co-op cattle, because right now, we haven’t broke ground on the plant, and if we do, it’s still a two-year buildout. So, we want to make sure we can start making money as producers now. So, we negotiated a grid that’s very favorable for our kind of cattle up here, and we’re starting to deliver those cattle today, and starting to make a good return on our money today.”…
