2025 has been a year filled with some tough sledding for retail chains across the country. And now it looks like another national retailer is permanently closing one of its few locations still left here in Minnesota.
It’s no secret that these are challenging times for traditional brick-and-mortar retail stores. Many once-profitable brands, like Sears and J.C. Penney, have had difficulties keeping their retail stores open and have faced bankruptcy. Even the storied Macy’s brand announced earlier this year that it would be closing 66 stores across the country.
National Retailers Continue To Close Stores In 2025
Retail is still big business here in the Bold North, with retailers now being the nation’s largest private-sector employer, helping to drive the U.S. economy and create jobs in communities around the country and here at home. According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), 25 percent of all jobs here in the North Star State are supported by the retail industry.
But there will soon be one less retail location of the Kirkland’s Home stores here in Minnesota. The Kirkland’s Home website says the chain was co-founded by Carl and Robert Kirkland as a franchised gift shop in Jackson, Tennessee, in 1966. PR Newswire says that the specialty retailer of home decor and furnishings currently operates 314 stores in 35 states.
How Many Kirkland’s Home Stores Are Left In Minnesota?
The Kirkland’s store location page lists four separate locations in Minnesota:

But earlier this year, the Kirkland’s Home brand was re-named The Brand House Collective to reflect our strategic partnerships and new brand vision, its website says. And as a part of that rebranding, this USA Today story via AOL said the company would be closing 25 stores after it sold the Kirkland Home brand to the new Bed Bath and Beyond.
Minnesota Kirkland’s Store Now Listed As “Closing Soon”
That story, from October, noted that Kirkland’s Home stores in Arizona, California, Florida, and New Jersey were already slated to close. And now the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reports that the Minnesota Kirkland’s Home location in the Burnsville Center is also set to permanently close. This page on the Kirkland’s website also notes that the Burnsville location will be ‘closing soon.’…
