Popular Newton restaurant, The Breadbasket closing after 41 years

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A longtime Newton restaurant known for its traditional German Mennonite food is preparing to close its doors after more than four decades in business.

The Breadbasket, located at 219 N. Main St., has been serving the community for 41 years and has become a staple for families across the area. The restaurant is especially known for its German Mennonite buffet, featuring dishes like sauerkraut, German sausage, green bean soup, verenika, cherry moos, zwieback, and more. The restaurant will serve its final German buffet on Friday and Saturday, December 19 and 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. Its final Sunday buffet will be offered on December 21st. Regular menu items will continue through December 24. After Christmas Eve, the restaurant will remain open only until remaining food is sold and the kitchen is cleared…
