Rob Reiner’s Eugene stop changed Oregon film history forever

EUGENE, Ore. – Rob Reiner walked through the Atrium Building doors in downtown Eugene, while looking for a railroad to film ‘Stand By Me.’ That decision led to one of the most iconic movies of the 80’s being filmed in Western Oregon.

Back in 1984, Bob Larson worked at the Oregon Performing Arts Network, when Reiner walked into his building.

“When Rob Reiner opened up the door, immediately I recognized who he was from ‘All In The Family,’” Larson said. “He told me a story about how he was kicked out of the Southern Pacific Railroad office in Portland, because of the script he had from Stephen King about ‘The Body.’”…
