Right now, SVdP volunteers and staff are working to fill 2,000 planned food boxes for community members in the Eugene/Springfield area. They began fundraising the program back in November when SNAP benefits were at risk of losing funds due to the government shutting down.
Sign-ups for community members to receive a box opened at the beginning of December but there are still nearly 1,000 open sign-up spots available.
“We saw a lot of initial signups come through at the beginning of the month, but it has trickled down substantially since then. We were prepared for a huge demand this year and have plenty of openings left,” said Leah-Hess Murray, the social service manager for SVdP’s Lindholm office…
