In-river work on Arlington bridges complete

Temperate fall weather has helped work crews from Granite Construction complete all in-river work on the Arlington bridges project in downtown Reno, and the Truckee River at Wingfield Park is expected to be open this summer after a one-year shutdown.

Abutments for both the north and south bridges are in place, as well as the central pier supporting the longer north span. The AquaDam that diverted water to the north and south channels as work proceeded has been removed, leaving the Truckee River to once again flow unimpeded around Wingfield Island. Granite will spend the coming months working on completing bridge decking for both spans, said Bryan Byrne, project manager for the Regional Transportation Commission.

“This is a major milestone – we are more than halfway done now,” Byrne said. “This was the critical milestone to be able to complete the infrastructure for both the south and north bridge in-river components.”…
