Birmingham City Council approves funding for Jimmie Hale Mission service center

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham City Council on Tuesday approved $250,000 a year for four years to help Jimmie Hale Mission build a new service center aimed at expanding resources for the city’s unhoused community.

Jimmie Hale Mission Executive Director Perryn Carroll said the project has been in the works for about nine months and will allow the organization to provide services beyond overnight shelter and meals.

“Guests will be able to get a safe night’s sleep and a warm meal but also take a shower, do laundry and receive case management services to help identify and overcome those barriers that are holding them in homelessness,” Carroll said. “We are also partnering with Aletheia House to provide basic medical care and emergency dental care.”
